Indiana Rail Plan

The 2002 Indiana State Rail Plan provides a broad view of the freight and passenger rail industry in the state. The plan details the importance of the state's freight industry in relation to the coal and agribusiness sectors of Indiana's economy. It outlines some of the benefits and challenges faced by Indiana's shortline railroads, particularly in the 15 rural counties served only by shortlines. The plan explains, in economic terms, the need to capitalize on the benefits and address the challenges associated with the state's rail industry. Also presented in this plan is a complete overview of recent passenger (intercity and commuter) rail planning activities as well as an analysis of existing Amtrak and commuter services.
