Storm Debris Collection Begins Friday, October 16

The Town of Porter is participating in the State of Indiana's debris removal mission following the August 11 storms. Porter County is among 11 counties approved under the federal Major Disaster Declaration.

Cleanup Schedule
Friday, October 16 – Storm Debris Collection Begins

A grapple truck will begin collecting storm-related vegetative debris from public rights-of-way throughout the Town of Porter on Friday, October 16, 2026.

Residents who still have storm debris are asked to move it to the public right-of-way for collection.

Please follow these guideline:

• Vegetation only. No grass clippings, bags, or nonvegetative materials.
• Contractors cannot enter private property to collect debris.
• Keep debris piles away from fire hydrants, mailboxes, and other obstructions.
• Do not place debris on or near power lines or on anyone else's private property.

We appreciate everyone's patience and cooperation as we complete this final phase of storm cleanup throughout Porter.

About the Cleanup

The State will initially pay the contractors, with eligible costs shared as follows: 75% FEMA, 18.75% State of Indiana, and 6.25% Town of Porter.

Residents and businesses affected by the August 11 storms may still qualify for federal or state disaster assistance.

The Indiana Disaster Assistance Hub provides information about FEMA assistance, SBA disaster loans, state relief programs, application deadlines, and other recovery resources. Residents are encouraged to review available programs and apply before applicable deadlines.
