
Building a Healthier Morgan County Together
The Morgan County Health Department (MCHD) and the YMCA of Morgan County have partnered to form Morgan County’s Healthy Community Coalition (HCC),a countywide effort focused on chronic disease prevention, with an emphasis on obesity and obesity-related conditions.
Why This Matters
Chronic diseases affect countless lives every day, and the need for action is urgent.
- Indiana ranks 12th highest in the U.S. for adult obesity
- 46.3% of adults in Morgan County have obesity
- 1 in 3 children in Indiana have overweight or obesity
- Obesity increases the risk for heart disease, cancer, diabetes, and other chronic conditions
Our Approach
A key strategy in preventing chronic disease is building a strong, inclusive community coalition that represents the voices and expertise of the entire community.
The HCC has 36 members:
- Nonprofit leaders
- Local business leaders
- Community members
- Health professionals
- School administrators
- Fitness and wellness leaders
- Morgan County Health Department staff
- and many others committed to improving community health

- Help shape countywide health strategies
- Share resources and best practices
- Collaborate on solutions that are innovative, scientifically supported or evidence-based
- Support MCHD in meeting a required *State Key Performance Indicator for obesity and chronic disease prevention
