Mission and Vision Statements

The Indiana State Police has a rich heritage, and our administration will maintain and build upon that well-earned heritage. To begin, we need to revisit and clearly state the Department’s mission, vision, and core values. Further, we can speak directly to the three primary components of the Department: Enforcement; Investigations; and Support Services. Our goal is to elevate the Indiana State Police to the highest levels of professionalism and effectiveness.

Mission

The Mission of the Indiana State Police is to provide optimal law enforcement services to the citizens of Indiana consistent within the highest traditions of the Department. Through our enforcement, investigative, and crime prevention efforts, we will improve the quality of life for all Hoosiers.

Vision

The Indiana State Police will be the model of an innovative, community-oriented police department. Our core responsibilities are to prevent crime, maintain order, serve victims, and safeguard our roads and highways. We will strive to be the best trained and most prepared law enforcement agency in the nation.

Values

Courage - We believe courage is the mental, moral, and physical strength to overcome fear and do what is right in the face of adversity. We also believe it is the willingness to change in response to well-founded criticism.

Commitment - This embodies the selfless dedication of each individual on the Department. It is doing one’s duty in all things and at all times with fidelity and a true sense of service. Commitment is devoting ourselves to our profession and always aspiring to achieve excellence in every endeavor.

Character - The Indiana State Police hires and promotes people of good character based on the credence that actions and decisions ingrained in good character will have positive results. We embrace the strength of character to confront fear, danger, and uncertainty in devotion to the members of the Department, our citizens, and the law.
