Indiana State Police School Safety

Welcome to the Indiana State Police's School Safety Homepage

This website has been created in the hopes of providing schools and school corporations with tactics for ensuring school safety in Indiana's education facilities. Indiana has been a national leader in school safety for more than ten years with the crafting of cutting edge legislation and the establishment of the Indiana School Safety Specialist Academy. In an effort to take school safety to the next level, the Indiana State Police encourages school corporations to hire School Resource Officers to serve not only as a first line of defense in an active shooter incident, but also to provide additional security within the schools to combat drug usage, bullying, and other issues often requiring law enforcement intervention.

The School Walk Through Initiative is a statewide program that provides an added level of security to schools while also giving Hoosier children the opportunity to interact with police officers in a positive learning environment. In addition to providing safety presentations, troopers will simply walk through the halls during school hours. Please keep this in mind as you may see state police cars in the school parking lots and your children may tell you about state troopers walking the hallways of their school.
