Elementary School

The elementary school at ISBVI educates students in preschool to grade 5. A small class size, hands on activities and highly trained educators create an atmosphere that allows a student who is blind or has low vision the chance to thrive. The highly trained teachers are trained both in Indiana's core curriculum as well as the Expanded Core Curriculum. Students participate in activities that entertain as well as prepare them socially. Elementary students participate in a variety of activities that promote social skills and independent living such as field trips and community based instruction.

At ISBVI, our elementary students use the Savvas Reading Curriculum to build strong literacy skills. This curriculum supports students as they grow in reading, writing, vocabulary, and comprehension, helping them develop confidence as learners. Through this approach, ISBVI is committed to building strong readers who are prepared for continued academic success.
