Who should file a tax return?

Resources to file electronically

Electronic filing is convenient, accurate, and fast. Many first-time filers will qualify for the INfreefile program, which allows you to file federal and state taxes for free through approved vendors.

Payment options & Deadlines

You must file and pay any taxes due by April 15. If you apply for an extension through INTIME, you still must pay a 90% estimate of taxes due to avoid any penalties or fines. Indiana’s Application for Extension of Time to File, Form IT-9, extends your filing time to Nov. 15.

You may pay through INTIME by E-check or credit card (fees apply)

Extension of Time to File

Can’t pay what you owe?

Pay as much as you can by the April 15 deadline to reduce the amount of penalty and interest that will be due. If you cannot pay the total amount owed, you may request a payment plan through INTIME.

Select the right form

If you prefer to file by paper, make sure you fill out the correct forms. In most cases, full- time residents of Indiana must file Form IT-40. If you were a part-year resident or lived in another state but earned income in Indiana, you must file either the Form IT-40PNR or the Form IT-40RNR.
