Students who develop a strong financial literacy are empowered to access available resources and develop sound decision-making skills to responsibly and effectively manage their personal finances in an ever-changing world.
The Indiana High School diploma requires one semester of a Personal Finance course to fulfill their mathematics requirements beginning with the 2029 cohort. The course options for fulfilling this personal finance requirement are listed in the Final Course Eligibility document for the new diploma. Pursuant to Indiana Code (IC) 20-30-5-19 (2023), each school corporation, charter school, and state-accredited non-public school must include instruction concerning personal financial responsibility in its high school curriculum.

The 2024 Financial Literacy Standards Correlation Guide illustrates changes and correlations between the competencies of the Next Level Programs of Study (NLPS) course 4540 Personal Financial Responsibility approved to satisfy the graduation course requirement for students and the 2011 Indiana Academic Standards (IAS) for Financial Literacy..
