Marriage licenses: Both applicants must apply for their license in person at the same time. Indiana residents must obtain a marriage license in the county in which at least ONE of them resides. This will allow you to be married anywhere in Indiana (I.C. 31-11-4-3). Applicants ages 18 or older must provide one of the following forms of ID at the time of the application to show proof of age:

  • Driver’s license
  • Current state-issued ID card
  • Birth certificate
  • Passport
  • Military ID

Applicants under the age of 18 must be accompanied by both parents (with ID) or in case of death or divorce, a custodial parent to sign consent (I.C. 31-11-4-6).

If either applicant has been married previously, the license application requires information regarding how it ended and the date (mm/dd/year) it ended. It also requires applicants’ parents’ current address, maiden or previous names, and state of birth. Applicants will also need their children’s full names and birthdates.

You may fill out most of the application before coming into the Clerk’s office or we can help when you arrive.

If you are a resident of Indiana you need to obtain license in your county of residence.  If you are from out of state, you will want to apply for your license in the Indiana County you intend to be married in.

Marriage license fees are as follows:

  • $29 for Indiana residents
  • $69 for out of state
