Services

  • Township Assistance – A Township Trustee can assist township residents with the basic necessities of living in an emergency situation.
  • Fire Protection – Van Buren Township has an interlocal agreement with the Town of Van Buren to contract fire protection services with the Van Buren Volunteer Fire Department.
  • Care of Abandoned Cemeteries – a township trustee is required to maintain cemeteries within their township that were established before 1939 and have no resources or other organization that cares for them.  There are 5 cemeteries under the care of the Van Buren Township Trustee: Corey, Doyle, Farrville, Landess (Tinkle) and Lee.   • Noxious Weed Control - Responsible for destroying detrimental weeds in the township that are not within incorporated limits. Indiana noxious weeds list (IC 15-16-7-2).
  • Fence disputes - The township assists in negotiations when a dispute arises between two land owners regarding placement and maintenance of line fences. The trustee can only assist if at least one of the adjoining properties is outside of an incorporated area and is zoned for agriculture.
