About

As a primarily urban township, the Trustee’s main responsibility is to provide emergency or short-term assistance to those in need.  The Trustee also provides fire protection to areas of Black Township not incorporated into the City of Mount Vernon, oversees the township budget and financial records, provides an annual financial report to the State Board of Accounts, manages all township owned buildings and property, and inspects and maintains unincorporated cemeteries within Black Township.

When available, we provide the following: diapers, steel-toe shoes, toiletries, clothing, non-perishable food, furniture, light bulbs, safety glasses, adult undergarments, lice kits, and night lights.

Additional services include assistance in completing and submitting CAPE Energy Assistance applications, Notary Public services, and providing Thanksgiving baskets for Posey County families and Christmas gifts for children via community churches, individual sponsors, and organizations.
