Brush Collection Reminder

All brush must be placed at the front of your property

Posted on: June 26, 2025 - 9:17am

The Town of Porter provides brush pickup for residents conducting routine pruning of trees and bushes, especially when the resulting brush is too large for regular trash collection.

Important: All Brush Must Be Placed At The Front of Your Property
Brush and branch piles must be placed at the front of your property for pickup. The Town cannot pick up brush from alleys due to truck size and overhead utility lines.

Preparation Guidelines:

  • Thorns and thistles must be separated from branch piles and placed in brown recyclable lawn bags weighing no more than 50 pounds per bag.
  • Branch piles should not exceed 4 feet in length or height.
  • Organic yard waste such as ornamental grasses, flowers, and shrubs must also be placed in brown recyclable lawn bags weighing no more than 50 pounds per bag.

Restrictions:

  • The Town will not collect contractor-generated debris. Property owners or occupants must arrange for its removal.
  • The Town will not collect brush or debris resulting from lot clearing or the cutting down of whole trees, including any logs or stumps.

Additional Brush Collection Option:
Republic Services will collect bundled brush (no larger than 4 feet long and 4 feet high) if placed curbside alongside trash cans on your regular garbage day. Pleae note that Republic Services does not collect leaves.

Requesting Brush or Limb Pickup:

  • Call the Public Works Department at (219) 926-4212 and leave a message with your name, address, and phone number if calling after hours.
