The Quiet Room

Hours: Monday-Thursday 9:30am-7:30pm
Friday-Saturday 9:30am-4:30pm
Maximum Capacity: 16 people
Designed as a peaceful retreat within the library, the Quiet Room offers a calm, comfortable environment for silent study, reading, research, and relaxation. Soft lighting, cozy seating, and sensory-friendly amenities make it an ideal space for anyone who benefits from a low-stimulation setting - as well as anyone simply seeking a quiet place to focus.
Inside, patrons will find comfy armchairs, ample table space, a white noise machine, noise-canceling headphones, a weighted blanket, adult fidgets, and warm green lamp lighting designed for comfort. The Quiet Room also continues to house our historic newspaper collection, yearbooks, genealogy tools, and other local research materials.
The Quiet Room is open to all ages, and no reservation is required. Patrons are welcome to open or close the door and adjust the lighting to their preference.
Quiet Room Rules
To maintain a peaceful environment for everyone, we ask patrons to follow these guidelines:
- No talking in the Quiet Room.
- No device noise - headphones must be used for all audio.
- Be mindful of movement to keep the atmosphere calm.
- Respect the space, materials, and others using the room.
If patrons are unable to follow the Quiet Room rules, they may be asked to continue their work in another area of the library.
Whether you're studying, reading for pleasure, researching local history, or simply taking a moment to unwind, the Quiet Room is your oasis of calm at NMPL.
