Temporary Emergency Independent Adjuster License

Individuals not Licensed in Indiana but qualified to Adjust Claims in the Event of a Catastrophe

A Temporary Emergency Independent Adjuster license may be issued to an individual not licensed as an adjuster in Indiana to adjust losses as a result of a catastrophe or an emergency.

If a catastrophe is declared, an insurer may contract with an individual who:
(1) is not licensed in Indiana; but
(2) is otherwise qualified to adjust claims;
to act as a Temporary Emergency Independent Adjuster on behalf of the insurer if the insurer obtains for the individual a Temporary Emergency Independent Adjuster license.

The Temporary Emergency Independent Adjuster does not have to receive the Indiana license before beginning work. Within five (5) days of an adjuster commencing work, the insurer shall submit an application for the Temporary Emergency Independent Adjuster license.

The sponsoring insurer must provide details of the catastrophe requiring the issuance of a Temporary Emergency Independent Adjuster license. Details must include:
(1) The name of the individual.
(2) The name of the insurer.
(3) The effective date of the contract between the insurer and the individual.
(4) The catastrophe or loss number.
(5) The catastrophe event name.
(6) Mailing address of the insurer.

The Temporary Emergency Independent Adjuster application is available at the following link: CATLOSS Form #0711. The form must be mailed to the address at the top of the form and include the Temporary Emergency Independent Adjuster license fee of $20.00 (per license) by check or money order made payable to "Indiana Department of Insurance" or "IDOI."

Temporary Emergency Adjuster License
A Temporary Emergency Independent Adjuster license is effective for not more than ninety (90) days, unless extended by the Commissioner. In the event of multiple catastrophes, an individual who holds a Temporary Emergency Independent Adjuster license issued with respect to one (1) declared catastrophe may adjust claims arising from any other catastrophe that occurs within the ninety (90) day period during which the license is effective without the insurer applying for an additional Temporary Emergency Independent Adjuster license.
