Resident Requirements
Indiana does not have a separate LTC license. LTC is a certification and not a line of authority. Producers must hold either an Accident & Health or Life, Accident, Health license to sell LTC insurance or LTC riders.
Before marketing, selling, or soliciting any LTC products, all producers must initially complete:
- An (8) eight hour basic LTC continuing education course specifically approved for LTC. This is a single course and can be taken in-classroom, self-study, or online.
- After satisfying the initial 8 hour basic LTC requirement, producers must complete a minimum of (5) five hours of LTC CE courses in each subsequent licensing period to remain LTC certified. This requirement can be satisfied with any combination of 5 hours and is not required to be a single 5 hour course. Failure to complete 5 LTC hours in a licensing period would require taking the initial 8 hour basic LTC course again.
- The courses may be taken any time during the licensing period.
- All LTC CE hours count toward the overall CE requirement.
- The CE carry-over provision does not apply to LTC.
- CE certificates should be maintained by the producer and not sent to the IDOI.
Indiana Long Term Care Partnership Program (ILTCP)
Agents wanting to market, sell, or solicit Indiana LTC Partnership policies must first complete the requirements for LTC. This includes holding a health license and completing an initial (8) eight hour basic LTC course. The Indiana LTC Partnership certification is a one-time 7 hour Indiana specific Partnership course. The course can be taken in-classroom or by interactive webinar. The course is not available as self-study.
NAIC approved Partnership courses or Partnership courses from another state do not satisfy Indiana’s Partnership certification requirement. No additional Partnership courses are required unless the producer no longer has a valid health license. LTC and Partnership recertification would then be required if a new health license is obtained.
Non-Resident Requirements
Non-resident agents wanting to market, sell, or solicit any LTC product or LTC rider in Indiana must have an Indiana non-resident health license and be compliant with the producer’s home state LTC requirements. Indiana’s LTC CE requirement (8 hour basic/5 hours renewal) is waived for non-resident agents.
The Partnership 7 hour Indiana specific CE certification is not waived for non-resident agents and must be completed if marketing Indiana LTC Partnership policies. The Indiana LTC Partnership course can be taken in-classroom or by interactive webinar. A self-study Partnership course is not available.
