The Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) is committed to helping local communities remove and properly dispose of waste tires. Waste tires that are left in the open environment are subject to collecting rainwater and becoming a breeding ground for mosquitoes. To prevent human health/environmental concerns associated with tires, IDEM has created a waste tire grant program.
IDEM encourages Solid Waste Management Districts (SWMDs), to apply for a waste tire grant. For counties without a SWMD, a municipal or county government may apply. Please note that only one grant is awarded per county, with preference given to SWMDs.
IDEM has $300,000 available in grant funding for 2026 fiscal year. Applications will be accepted from December 15, 2025 to January 17, 2026. Waste Tire Grants will be awarded up to $10,000.
