Climate Pollution Reduction Grant (CPRG) Program

  • Current: Climate Pollution Reduction Grant (CPRG) Program

Announcement

Indiana has concluded its participation in the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Climate Pollution Reduction Grants (CPRG) program. The state fulfilled the requirements of the planning grant, including the delivery of the PCAP to the U.S. EPA in accordance with the program's guidelines and timeline. Additionally, Governor Braun signed Executive Order 25-49, which directed IDEM to revisit and consider “rescinding climate action plans developed under federal programs.”

Background

In July 2023, the Indiana Department of Environmental Management was awarded a $3 million planning grant for the U.S. EPA's Climate Pollution Reduction Grant (CPRG) Program. The CPRG program provided federal funding to state governments, municipalities, tribes, and territories to plan and implement strategies for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and other harmful air pollutants.

IDEM hosted public meetings across the state and virtually as part of our planning efforts. The sessions helped solicit feedback from various stakeholders and industries to help develop Indiana's Priority Climate Action Plan (PCAP), which identifies near-term, high-priority measures to reduce Indiana's greenhouse gas emissions and other harmful pollutants.

In 2024, the EPA announced recipients of the competitive implementation grants under the CPRG program. Indiana was not selected for an implementation award, which would have provided funding for Indiana to administer measures identified in the PCAP.
