2026 Ambient Air Monitoring Network Plan
Federal regulations (40 CFR 58.10) require IDEM to review Indiana’s ambient air monitoring network annually to assess the current network and determine if any changes are necessary to meet the monitoring goals and carry out monitoring projects across the state. IDEM evaluates many factors when reviewing the network plan, including current National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS), data trends, population changes, new monitoring projects, site redundancy, siting problems, site access concerns, and other identified monitoring issues.
IDEM is required to develop and submit an annual monitoring network plan to U.S. EPA that details the current air quality surveillance system and proposed changes for the coming year. The public can review the proposed 2026 plan and submit comments by June 18. Instructions on how to submit comments are located in Appendix A (Page 79) of the proposed plan.

IDEM provides information describing what materials may or may not be open burned. Anyone may download, print, and distribute the following postcards for businesses, agricultural/vegetation maintenance, and residents:

- Residential Open Burning
Even where it is allowed by state and local regulations, open burning is not advised.
Indiana Air Permit Fee Increases for the Title V Program
On August 14, 2019, the Indiana Environmental Rules Board affirmed a decision by IDEM’s Commissioner to increase the Office of Air Quality’s Title V program fees by 27%, including all fees from Part 70 sources under Title 326, Article 2, Rule 7 of the Indiana Administrative Code (326 IAC 2-7), Federally Enforceable State Operating Permit (FESOP) sources under 326 IAC 2-8, and Source Specific Operating Agreement (SSOA) sources under 326 IAC 2-9. IDEM’s Air Permit Timeframes and Fees Web page provides a table containing base application fees for permits.
Indiana’s Annual Ambient Air Monitoring Network Plan
IDEM reviews Indiana’s Annual Ambient Monitoring Network Plan every year. The plan contains a complete description of pollutants being monitored in Indiana and monitor locations. IDEM’s annual plan review includes a determination about what, if any, network changes may be appropriate for the coming year. IDEM invites the public to review and comment on the proposed plan in May or June each year, before submitting it to the United States Environmental Protection Agency on July 1 for approval. The public may review proposed and approved plans on Indiana’s Ambient Air Monitoring Network page.
The IDEM Featured Topics Web page provides updates on other environmental topics including but not limited to emergency response, land quality, water quality, and pollution prevention.
