What is the Governor’s Reception?

The Indiana Civil Rights Commission invites you to attend the 2026 Governor’s Reception during the Indiana Black Expo Summer Celebration.

This annual event recognizes outstanding Black Hoosiers whose leadership, service, innovation, and dedication are making a meaningful impact in communities across Indiana.

Join us for a special reception honoring Indiana’s Black unsung heroes, including leaders, advocates, educators, entrepreneurs, and volunteers who create meaningful and lasting change in communities across the state. 

Date: July 14, 2026  

Time: 2:45 PM – 4 PM  

Doors Open: 2:30 PM

The Governor’s Reception Awards recognize Black Hoosiers in the following categories:

Achievement in Business and Entrepreneurship

Recognizes a Hoosier who has excelled in industry and uses their accomplishments to give back to the community while creating economic opportunities for Hoosiers.

Next Gen Leadership Award

Recognizes an emerging leader who demonstrates initiative, community involvement, and leadership that uplifts others.

Community Engagement Award

Recognizes an individual committed to improving their community through impactful programs, service, and leadership.

Achievement in Education

Recognizes an educator who has used innovative strategies to promote growth, achievement, and new opportunities for students.

Achievement in Health and Wellness

Recognizes an individual who champions health care and wellness through access, awareness, and community-focused initiatives.

Harold O. Hatcher Award

In addition to these honors, the Indiana Civil Rights Commission also presents the Harold O. Hatcher Award to an ICRC staff member who demonstrates exceptional customer service, leadership, and commitment to serving Hoosiers.

The award is named in honor of Harold O. Hatcher, a civil rights leader and advocate who dedicated his career to advancing equal opportunity and public service in Indiana. His leadership helped shape the mission and work of the Indiana Civil Rights Commission, and this award continues to recognize employees who embody those same values through their service to the people of Indiana.
