Introducing FSSA's equity champion

The mission of FSSA is to compassionately serve our diverse community of Hoosiers by dismantling long-standing, persistent inequity through deliberate human services system improvement. Now, a new agency-wide award will recognize FSSA employees for their contributions to achieving that mission: FSSA’s Equity Champion Award.

FSSA’s Office of Healthy Opportunities defines social equity as when all individuals and communities experience optimal well-being and quality of life. This happens when people have fair treatment, advancement, opportunity, and access to things like effective human services. Achieving social equity requires us to identify and eliminate barriers that prevent individuals and communities from realizing their full potential.

FSSA’s Equity Champion Award was established to recognize staff members who  exhibit an outstanding commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion; promote inclusionary efforts; and demonstrate exemplary contributions to developing a culturally diverse and welcoming culture. This award is designed to encourage significant and continued efforts in promoting equity, diversity and inclusion at FSSA.

Examples might include activities such as: mentoring employees (personal and/or professional), development of relevant training, development of strategies that bring awareness to employee experiences or behavior, extending a welcoming work environment and fostering a sense of belonging, redesigning programs, and supporting diverse FSSA constituents, among other efforts.

Nominees may be full-or part-time employees, including contractors. Individuals may also self-nominate for the award. Nominations may be submitted by clicking here and you will need to submit the nominee’s name, email and why they deserve the Equity Champion Award.

Please be specific and objective in answering the following questions:

  1. Why does the nominee deserve to win this award?
  2. How did the nominee’s  contribution(s) exceed normal expectations and official duties?
  3. How did the nominee’s accomplishments make a difference?
  4. How did the nominee’s accomplishment(s) support the spirit of this award?

All submissions will be reviewed by individuals from the Office of Healthy Opportunities, the Office of the Secretary, and the Governor’s Office of Equity, Inclusion, and Opportunity.

The deadline for submission is 6/11/2022.
