Social Services

Department head: Terry Schrock

The social services department is a part of the biopsychosocial system of treatment and rehabilitation for those patients entrusted to the care of the Logansport State Hospital.

Along with other hospital services/departments, social services specialists assist the hospital in achieving its objectives and goals. Social services specialists, as a part of the interdisciplinary treatment team, are not only involved in the treatment, rehabilitation, and care of patients but are particularly concerned in the strengthening and/or re-establishing of the patients’ relationship with family/significant others and the community. Social services specialists have the responsibility of being knowledgeable of the community resources and have the responsibility for the implementation of the treatment team’s discharge plan and continuum of care issues. We partner with the gatekeepers to ensure the patients’ placement in the community is expedient and safe.

The social services department, along with the other hospital services/ departments, assists in providing education in the field of mental illness to the communities.

The department provides clinical social services, of which one important component is the recovery model. The department will continue to utilize and become more familiar with best practices and evidence-based active treatment approaches.
