Rehabilitation Therapy

The rehabilitation therapy department provides rehabilitation/habilitation services that meet the needs of the populations served by Logansport State Hospital. Biopsychosocial programs are designed to restore the individual to the highest attainable functional level while facilitating their return to the community, family and friends.

Rehabilitation therapy staff are responsible for an ongoing process of assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient’s progress, needs and interests. Rehabilitation therapists are integral members of the unit treatment teams and participate in treatment planning and case management for patients. Rehabilitation therapy assistants are responsible to assist the therapists with program needs and to implement leisure/recreational activities.

The barber works on a persons hair.Programming focuses on needs identified in the areas of social skills, leisure skills, living skills, vocational skills and educational skills.

Grooming services are available to all patients at Logansport state Hospital for the purpose of providing health maintenance.

Active treatment programs and activities are scheduled during the day, evening and weekend, and may be provided on the unit, at other campus locations or in the community. These may include independent living skills, money management, communication skills, social skills, leisure education, stress management, experiential education, task activities, sensory defensiveness, recreation, community re-entry as well as many others.

Non-denominational church services are provided each Sunday as well as Bible study, Bible education and church services during the week as requested. Individual time with the chaplain is also available upon request.A patient sits in the library.

Vocational services are available for those with an assessed need. The program stages include a referral to the program, completion of a six week work readiness class, placement in the patient payroll program and attending a work support group. All patients in the payroll program receive minimum wage.

Educational services include GED training by rehab therapists upon request. Arrangements can be made to take the GED test on site. Patients under the age of 22 are reviewed for possible referral to the Logansport Joint Special Services Corporation.

Library services include providing newspapers, magazines, books, articles and other media for current events. Many classes are held in the library and service lines by the librarian.
