Scope of Service

The primary areas of responsibility of the Health Information Services Department are medical record retrieval for patient care, correspondence, record analysis, record completion, maintenance of commitment data and other legal information, coding of patient records for hospital reimbursement, data collection for accreditation and licensing and providing information to support and comply with HIPAA regulations.

The primary functions of Health Information Services are:

  • To maintain a medical record on each patient, present or discharged, that is as complete, accurate and timely as possible.
  • To maintain computer data that is current and accurate.
  • To coordinate the release of medical information on patients while maintaining confidentiality.
  • To monitor departmental adherence to timeliness and accuracy of data in order to provide administration with fiscal data and to maintain security for the medical information for which we are responsible.
