Stewart's Healthcare Consultants Starts First Certified Earn & Learn Program
Kokomo Business Achieves a State Milestone
INDIANAPOLIS (June 19, 2018) – Indiana's Office of Work-Based Learning and Apprenticeship certifies its first Earn & Learn program with Stewart's Healthcare Consultants. Work-based learning is a priority for Indiana, as it provides: 1) individuals with the training and development path to meaningful careers, and 2) employers with an educated and skilled employee.
Stewart’s Healthcare Associates hosted a special event commemorating the milestone Tuesday morning at their office as leaders from the Indiana Department of Workforce Development and local Kokomo officials attended and presented certificates to CEO Antonio “Tony” Stewart. Stewart’s will launch two Earn & Learn programs, one for adults this summer and one for youth in the fall.
Darrel Zeck, the Executive Director of the Indiana Office of Work-Based Learning and Apprenticeship, which is part of DWD, presented the certificates to Stewart.
“These are exciting times for Stewart’s Healthcare Consultants, and we are honored to be recognized as a first for the state,” said Stewart. “Our programs are designed to not only provide on-the-job training while being paid, but to also result in standing credit at Ivy Tech Community College. It’s a win-win for our company and for our future employees.”
The youth Earn & Learn program has been developed with high school students in mind. Students will be trained through a local career center, and the program can be completed in less than one year. A slightly different version was adopted for adults, and connected to the local WorkOne office to take advantage of the training opportunities there.
“While an Earn & Learn program is just one of many options for Work-Based Learning, it is a very important one,” said Zeck. “Stewart’s dedication to developing their programs and their willingness to take this first step is very much appreciated. Many more programs will follow, and several are already in the pipeline, but it takes a true visionary to be the first. Stewart’s commitment to work-based learning is significant as we embark on this new journey.”
The Office of Work-Based Learning and Apprenticeship’s goals are to facilitate work-based learning opportunities; offer support and resources to develop skill and duty-driven curriculum; support development of work-based learning programming; and approve state Earn & Learn models.
