Ball Corporation, Mandy Green of Lafayette both received WorkOne Achievement Awards

INDIANAPOLIS (April 12, 2017) – The Department of Workforce Development (DWD) and its WorkOne Career Centers hosted their biennial WorkOne Achievement Awards on Tuesday, April 11, 2017, at the Statehouse. The ceremony recognized the success of Hoosier employees and employers who have received services through WorkOne. Ball Corporation and Mandy Green of Lafayette, Ind., were two of 22 recipients who received an employer award and an individual award, respectively. Both recipients were nominated for the award by their local WorkOne center.

Ball Corporation received a WorkOne Achievement Award for partnering with WorkOne to create employment opportunities for local Hoosiers.

Ball Corporation manufactures high-quality metal packaging for food, beverage and household products. They also provide aerospace technologies for commercial and government customers. Ball is the largest producer of specialty beverage cans in North America, providing more than 20 sizes to its customers. The Monticello-based company uses Indiana Career Connect to post open positions, and has placed about 35 individuals into full-time positions while utilizing On-The-Job Training (OJT) funds. These placements consist mainly of veterans and dislocated workers. In the past year alone, Ball has hired four veterans and three dislocated workers through the OJT program.

Mandy Green received a WorkOne Achievement Award for overcoming several employment barriers and personal challenges, and for pursuing a better life for herself.

In September of 2015, Green co-enrolled in the following American Job Center programs: Adult, Youth and Ready to Work (RTW). She began Occupational Skills Training (OST) with Purdue Polytechnic-Lafayette and attended a paid four-week, hands-on advanced manufacturing training class. After earning her Advanced Manufacturing Standardized Work certificate, she interned with SIA for nine weeks. In July of 2016, Green was hired on full-time with SIA. Throughout the program, she was punctual, friendly and eager to learn.
