Wabash County Planning & Zoning Department
The Wabash County Planning & Zoning Department administers and enforces the county zoning ordinance, processes permits and development applications, and provides staff support to the Plan Commission and Board of Zoning Appeals.
The department has jurisdiction over the unincorporated areas of Wabash County, excluding the extraterritorial jurisdictions of the City of Wabash and the Town of North Manchester. The department also provides zoning services for the incorporated towns of LaFontaine, Lagro, and Roann.
We are here to help property owners, residents, and businesses understand local zoning requirements and navigate the application process with clarity and confidence.

Planning to build, move, expand, divide property, or change how land is used?
Many projects require review or approval before work begins. This may include:
- Improvment Location Permits
- Variances
- Special Exceptions
- Rezones
- Roadway or Plat Vacations
- Appeals
- Other zoning-related requests
Requirements vary depending on your zoning district, property location, and the type of project proposed.
Before beginning construction, placing a structure, or submitting development plans, please contact the Planning Office. We can help determine what approvals may be required and explain the process.
Application forms and guidance materials will be available soon.
Land use decisions are made by the Advisory Plan Commission and the Board of Zoning Appeals in public meetings held at the Wabash County Courthouse.
Each board has its own responsibilities, meeting schedule, and application deadlines.
Plan Commission typically reviews rezones, subdivisions, and ordinance amendments.
Board of Zoning Appeals reviews variances, special exceptions, and appeals.
