Welcome to the Wabash County Highway Department
Welcome to the Wabash County Highway Department! We are dedicated to maintaining and improving the county’s transportation infrastructure to provide safe, reliable travel for our residents and visitors. Our department consists of three administrative staff members and 13 dedicated employees who work year-round to maintain 726 miles of county roads and more than 150 bridges throughout Wabash County. Our team is committed to preserving our roadways, promoting safe travel, and meeting the transportation needs of our community.
Maintaining Our Roads and Bridges
Each year, we chip seal more than 90 miles of roadway to help preserve pavement, extend road life, and protect the county’s investment in its transportation infrastructure. During the summer months, our crews mow roadsides, trim back brush, and replace culvert pipes to improve drainage and maintain the integrity of our roadways.
Winter Road Maintenance
When winter weather arrives, our crews work hard to keep roads safe and accessible. Our department is responsible for snow and ice removal across approximately 1,400 lane miles, helping residents and visitors travel as safely as possible during winter conditions.
Serving Our Communities
Our responsibilities extend beyond maintaining county roads and bridges. We also provide snow removal and infrastructure maintenance services for seven unincorporated towns, helping maintain safe, accessible roads and essential infrastructure throughout the year.
