Plan Commission Basics
The Plan Commission is responsible for administering and interpreting the county’s planning and zoning regulations. The Commission reviews proposals related to zoning, land development, subdivisions, and long-range planning to ensure orderly growth, compatibility of land uses, and protection of public health, safety, and welfare.
The Plan Commission has jurisdiction over the unincorporated areas of the county, excluding areas within the City of Wabash and the Town of North Manchester extraterritorial jurisdictions. The Commission also has jurisdiction within the incorporated towns of Lagro, LaFontaine, and Roann.
In most cases, the Plan Commission makes recommendations to the County Commissioners, who take final action.
The Plan Commission does not approve improvement location permits or grant variances.
The 2026 Plan Commission meeting calendar, including application filing deadlines, is available here. Applicants are responsible for ensuring all materials are submitted by the posted deadlines. Late or incomplete applications will not be placed on the docket.
