  1. The CDC will continuously update their guidance for employers so they can plan, prepare, and respond effectively.

These questions are compiled from conversations we have had with partners across the state on what they are doing within their companies and communities to address COVID-19 response needs:

 

Q1: How are companies managing childcare needs?
 

A1: Many are utilizing backup childcare options as well as offering employees a sum of money per day (ex: $100/day) to pay for childcare from a provider of their choice (including local network such as friends/family who are out of work due to COVID-19).

 

 

Q2: How are companies communicating the currently ever-evolving situation to their employees?
 

A2: Employers are offering guidance and direct communication to all workers – including full-time employees, contractors, hourly workers, and interns – through regular (ex: daily) emails from corporate HR teams or CEO. The key is establishing a single source of communication for employees to be able to refer to.

 

 

Q3: How are companies handling hiring and new employee onboarding?
 

A3: Many companies are moving to virtual interviews and an e-onboarding model; they are having work equipment (ex: computers) shipped to new hires, or are asking them to come pick it up. Some companies have paused hiring, but recognize they cannot keep it paused for long.

 

 

Q4: How are companies assisting employees who are not set up to work from home?
 

A4: Some employers are offering a one-time office equipment expense reimbursable through the company.

 

 

Q5: What are employers doing to keep employees engaged during this time?
 

A5: For all employees, extra communication is important. For essential employees still required to be on-site, employers are trying to keep them engaged with extra communication and show appreciation by providing lunch and other thoughtful perks. For employees who are working from home, they are utilizing video meetings during the work day, open office hours for Q&A, and fun engagement activities such as video happy hours.

 

 

Q6: What are employers doing for employees whose jobs can’t be done right now?
 

A6: If they are financially able to support it, many are trying to still pay those employees. Some are allowing their employees to use PTO days and exploring plans to do a PTO reset.

 

 

Q7: How are employers ensuring their employees don’t contribute to the spread of COVID-19?
 

A7: Employers are prohibiting work-related travel.
