June 26th 1:00p.m. – 2:00p.m. “Social Media, Library Meeting Rooms, and the First Amendment” by John Giacomantonio
This webinar explores the 1st Amendment and the constitutional principles involved in the regulation of speech by government entities. The speaker will also explore how the 1st Amendment impacts library policies and procedures related to the library’s social media accounts (when patrons are allowed to contribute content), library meeting rooms, bulletin boards, and display areas.
June 26th 2:30p.m. – 3:30p.m. “Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act” by Angela Moore
This webinar explores the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act as it applies to employers. Library directors, board members, and human resources personnel will be provided guidance on the employer requirements.
Recorded Presentation Note: In July 2013, the White House indicated that the employer shared responsibility payments and reporting requirements would not go into effect until 2015. Please be aware that, over time, other information given in this presentation may be superseded as the government issues new regulations and guidance.

This webinar will be a general survey of some of the legal issues related to libraries and e-content. The speaker will explore accessibility of e-content, how licensing terms can affect how the library and its patrons can use e-content, and more.
July 9th 2:30p.m. – 3:30p.m. “ADA Accessibility as it applies to Government Programs and Services” by John Giacomantonio
This webinar will explore the ADA requirements related to accessibility of library programs and services. There will also be a review of some of the basic ADA requirements, including the requirement to have an ADA coordinator; required notices; the need for certain policies; employee training and more.
July 17th 1:00p.m. – 2:00p.m. “Library Behavior Policies” by Angela Moore
This webinar will explore both constitutional requirements and state specific issues involved in creating and enforcing the library’s behavior policy. The speaker will also explore specific language that has been upheld and specific language that has been struck down in court challenges.
July 17th 2:30p.m. – 3:30p.m. “Copyright” by John Giacomantonio
This webinar will begin as a review on basic copyright principles and then will move on to an exploration of copyright as it is most applicable in the library setting. Among the topics the speaker will explore are copyright as it applies to making copies of works in the library’s collection, digitizing items in the library’s collection, and guidance on determining if an item is protected by copyright.
July 31st 2:30p.m. – 3:30p.m. “Fair Labor Standards Act” by Angela Moore
This webinar will be a general review of the basic provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act. The speaker will discuss how to determine if an employee is exempt or non-exempt and what those determinations mean for the government employer. Among the topics of commonly misunderstood provisions the speaker will explore are the use of employee volunteers, guidelines for using interns, how to properly provide for the use of comp time, and under what conditions overtime must be paid.
