Biographical Note:

Frank Marshall Moorman was born in Covington, Indiana, on July 30, 1894, the only son of Robert R. and Anna (Yount) Moorman.  He attended Purdue University, graduating in 1918 with a degree in agriculture.  While at Purdue, Moorman was a member of the Cadet Corps and attained the rank of captain.

Following graduation, Moorman enlisted in the army at Camp Taylor, Kentucky, in May 1918, and was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant later that month.  After receiving training at Fort Benjamin Harrison, Indianapolis, Moorman joined the 813 Pioneer Regiment, Infantry.  That regiment was sent to France as part of the American Expeditionary Forces during World War I, and Moorman participated in the Meuse-Argonne Offensive on the Western Front.  After the war ended, he was honorably discharged in August 1919.

After the war, Moorman lived in Indianapolis, working at a wholesale coal company.  He died in December 1968.

This collection consists of a certificate documenting Moorman’s appointment to Cadet Captain of the Purdue University Cadet Corps, June 12, 1918.
