Biographical Note:

Adam Crosier was born about 1806 in New York and worked as a farmer and surveyor in Harrison County, Indiana.  He married Sarah Douglas on December 30, 1831 and together they had six children.  He died in February of 1887. 

Edward Crosier was born about 1832 in Indiana and was the oldest child of Adam and Sarah Crosier.  He attended schools at Louisville, Kentucky and Ann Arbor, Michigan where he studied medicine.  He was a doctor with the U.S. Army Hospital at New Albany, Indiana, worked in the Surveyor’s Office of the U.S. Custom house at Louisville, and owned a druggist and chemist shop in New Albany.  He died in 1891.

Lafayette (Lafe) Crosier was born about 1854; he married Minerva J. Crosier, the daughter of Adam and Sarah Crosier on March 12, 1885.  He worked as a farmer in Harrison County, Indiana.

Scope and Content Note:

This collection contains letters from Edward Crosier to Adam Crosier, family letters from Battle Creek, Michigan, Knoxville, Iowa, Seneca and Geneva, New York, Ford County, Illinois, Jacksonville, Oregon, and Harrison County, Indiana. Also included are letters to Adam Crosier about his surveying work, letters to Lafe Crosier about family and farming, an 1866 campaign circular for Walter Q. Gresham, and comments on a speech by Joseph Albert Wright from August 10, 186?.
