Permit Application Assistance Manual

Project Description – Provide a narrative statement that gives a detailed summary of the project. The project description should include the overall scope of the project, a description of each major component including but not limited to the type of materials, dimensions, if the component is new or existing, and any temporary structure that will be used. If more space is needed, use a separate page and submit with the permit application form.

Example Project Descriptions for a Flood Control Act Permit Application:

Bank Stabilization-
Approximately 250' of the streambank will be stabilized with riprap placed over a geotextile fabric to protect the bank from further erosion. The riprap will have a maximum height of 5’, a maximum streamward projection of 2’ beyond the existing bank, and 1:1 sideslopes. The riprap will be keyed into the streambank at its base and will conform to the existing bank at the project limits.

Fill -
A 200’ x 100’ area will be filled for the development of a parking lot. The fill will vary in depth from 6” on the landward side to approximately 12” on the streamward side. The fill will be set 140’ back from the top of the bank and will have 3:1 sideslopes. The parking lot will be constructed on top of the compacted fill.

Example Project Descriptions for a Lake Preservation Act Permit Application:

Seawall –
A new seawall will be constructed along approximately 120’ of the shoreline. The wall will be composed of 2 to 12” diameter glacial stone. The lakeward face of the seawall will be at the lake's legal shoreline.

Underwater Beach-
A new underwater beach will be constructed consisting of a 4 to 6” thick layer of clean, washed pea gravel placed directly on the lakebed. The beach will begin approximately 40 ‘ east of the western property line and will extend easterly across 30’ of the 100’ of frontage. It will have a maximum lakeward projection of 25’.
