IOT SEAL IT Program is honored with HR Impact award

Tracy pic

The Indiana Office of Technology was recently honored with an Indianapolis Business Journal HR Impact award for the agency's skills-first approach for hiring technical roles, and in turn, creating the State Earn and Learn IT Program (https://www.instagram.com/iot_seal_it/)

IOT took a forward-looking path to talent development and created the program designed to reskill Hoosiers into technology careers. This program has made a pathway for IOT to prepare people for new careers - not jobs - while at the same time filling critical positions in state government.

Former SEAL associates, the SEAL Director and IOT's IT leaders attended the event!

Access Indiana exceeds 2 million users

Access Indiana (https://access.IN.gov),), the state’s single sign-on portal for Hoosiers to use digital government services, has surpassed 2 million users in just over three years.

Gov. Holcomb had instructed the Office of Technology to implement a service that connected online applications across state government with a single username and password to make accessing government services easier.

In the past year alone, Access Indiana added another 534,000 users and19 apps, bringing the total number of services to 116.

Beginning with one application in March 2019, Access Indiana now connects users to these state government services that may have previously required separate login.

From May 2022 to April 2023, Access Indiana has had:

  • # of logins: 9.4 million (an increase of 75% compared with last year)
  • # of apps accessed: 13.2 million (an increase of 70%)
  • Customer support calls as a percent of Access Indiana logins (0.15% of logins require support, down from 0.28% needing assistance last year)
  • Total users 2M (up 36%)
  • Total number of apps 116 (up from 97)

Additional services are continually being added to Access Indiana, with the ultimate goal of needing only one user identity to interact online with the state.

If you have an online service, whether external, business or internal, Access Indiana is your authentication solution. Get started today by emailing Graig Lubsen (glubsen@iot.in.gov).

My Civic app connects citizens with government

The Office of Technology supports multiple agency native mobile applications. Last month, IOT launched a new version of the IN.gov mobile app on iOS and Android.

Using new technology, IOT can use the back-end system to update content without republishing it to the app store, meaning customers see new information without downloading an update.

The IN.gov app offers a variety of features, including news across the state, a voter portal including registering to vote and vote by mail, a "meet your local officials" page, information for new residents - residency requirements and registering your vehicle, and so much more!

If you are interested in a mobile app or want to add content to the IN.gov app, contact IOT with a support ticket. For other mobile.in.gov apps the State of Indiana hosts, visit: https://www.in.gov/core/mobile/mobile-apps.html

Coming soon: ZoomGov

IOT is enhancing our web collaboration service offering by adding ZoomGov as a new customer option. IOT now offers service and support for Microsoft Teams, ZoomGov and WebEx.

IOT will be working to migrate State of Indiana users that have Zoom Free or Pro installed as a required collaboration tool to ZoomGov.

Microsoft Teams is still the standard web collaboration tool. However, IOT understands there are specific use cases for ZoomGov and WebEx. ZoomGov and WebEx requests will require a justification. ZoomGov accounts are $27.00 per account per month.

Why: ZoomGov is FedRamp compliant and more secure than Zoom Free, Zoom Pro and WebEx. (NOTE: The State's Microsoft Teams instance is in the Microsoft for Government tenant and is also FedRAMP compliant).

When: ZoomGov will be available starting July 1. IOT will begin working with the designated Agency Voice Coordinator before then.

IOT is targeting a completion date of September 4, 2023.

IN.gov homepage update

In.gov

IOT launched a new version of the www.in.gov homepage in May. You may wonder, 'how does IOT design new sites?'

How often are sites updated?

IN.gov refreshes sites annually, alternating between updating the IN.gov homepage and agency sites to stay current on web trends, contemporary designs, accessibility standards, new user experiences, and updated/new technologies.

Updating the homepage website configuration is a months-long process that begins with several design options. This past time, we started with seven website layouts.

Website review process:

  • Reviewed by IOT and the IN.gov Advisory Council
  • Make some revisions to the designs
  • Test all the sites on a geographically & demographically diverse group of Hoosiers to see which three they liked best
  • Review user feedback, iterate the three options
  • Test designs with a new group of residents
  • Edit based on their input and select a final design

Next, IOT will begin working on the agency templates to carry some of the look-and-feel principles from the homepage to the agency sites. Look for those to start rolling out in Spring 2024.

Did you know? One homepage component is dedicated to promoting public-facing agency programs or services. If you want to promote an external facing initiative/event from your agency on the IN.gov homepage, please submit ideas at https://in.accessgov.com/inwp/Forms/Page/inwp/request-promotion-item/1.

If you have any questions, please reach out to Graig Lubsen (glubsen@iot.in.gov) or Devan Penn (dpenn@iot.in.gov).
