Center Township is the center square of Marion County. The boundaries are within the south side 38th street, the east side of Belmont Avenue, the west side of Emerson Avenue, and the north side of Troy Avenue. If your address is outside of Center Township, you will have to apply for assistance in your home township. Please use the below link to verify which Township you reside in.

Township Assistance

The Center Township Trustee’s Office is responsible for providing assistance to residents who meet eligibility requirements and find themselves in need of temporary assistance. Individuals in need of assistance should walk in during our business hours or call us at 317.633.3610.

To expedite the processing of your application, please be prepared to provide the following documentation. This helps us ensure that funds are reserved for households experiencing financial hardship.

  • Verification of household income for the past 60 days (bank statements, prepaid card statements, paychecks, etc.)
  • Paid bill receipts for the past 60 days, including utility bills
  • Copy of your rental agreement or lease (or mortgage payment book if you own your home)
  • Picture identification for all adults in the household (must be a valid, unexpired State I.D. or Driver’s License)
  • Social Security cards or proof of application for everyone in the household
  • Copy of income tax returns and W-2s
  • Work One printout

Fo Burial Assistance please be prepared to provide the following documents:

Information Required
* Name of decedent
*  Next of kin (to determine if they can make arrangements)
o Must be in this order: spouse, children (over 18 and oldest), parents, siblings, extended family
o Next of kin can relinquish rights for another to make arrangements with notarized statement
o Verification required:
▪  Spouse – marriage certificate
▪  Children and parents – birth certificate (siblings, if available)
▪  All other relatives/friends/coroner/funeral homes/nursing homes – legal documents verifying
caregiver, power of attorney, or guardian or verify no other relatives, ad must be run in paper by
requestor

EACH APPLICATION IS EVALUATED ON A CASE-BY-CASE BASIS. If it is determined that an applicant may be eligible for public assistance other than Township Assistance the applicant may be referred to other resources within the community.

Appeals Process:

If an applicant is not satisfied with the decision of the Trustee, the applicant may appeal to the Board of County Commissioners of Marion County at the City County Building. An applicant for Township Assistance may file a written appeal within fifteen (15) days from the date of denial.

Tips for Applying:

  • Be on time. Be patient.
  • Provide all information requested and more if you can.
  • Keep all receipts and pay stubs.
  • Keep all appointments with other agencies.
  • Once documents are requested, clients may have up to 72 hours to provide all of the necessary information.

A signed application is valid for 180 days from the date it is received by the Trustee. Each applicant & each adult member of the applicant’s household must consent to disclosure and release of information regarding the applicant’s household before Township Assistance may be provided by the Township Trustee.

Helping Residents Manage their Money

In an effort to further serve the citizens of Center Township, the Representative Payee Program was implemented to ensure that the current needs of participants who are unable to manage their funds are met on a monthly basis.  By making direct payments in a timely manner, participants are better protected against eviction, homelessness, late fees, and utility disconnections.

In this program the beneficiary is regularly updated on expenses paid as well as the amount of any benefits that have been saved for the beneficiary.

Program Requirements

  • Must be a beneficiary of some type of benefits
  • There is no age requirement
  • Must be a resident of Marion County, Indiana
  • DOES NOT have to be recipient of Center Township’s Township Assistance.
  • Must be deemed by a physician unable to manage their own financial affairs.
