Mission

Our mission is to provide a well-trained, knowledgeable, and capable department that will be proactive in the prevention of crime, aggressive in identifying criminal activity, and deliberate in the investigation of crimes committed.  All for the sole purpose of preserving the peace, reducing fear, and providing for a safe environment.

Goals

Maintain current community partners and build new community partners to enhance the departments capabilities. Work with community organizations (school, library, churches, and civic groups) to promote public safety.

  • Marshal Paul Hoffman is a 1990/91 graduate of Vincennes University with an Associate Degree in Conservation Law Enforcement and Law Enforcement.  He is a 1997 graduate of the Town Marshals Course from the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy.  Paul began his career with the Town of Rome City as a Reserve Officer in 1994.  He was hired as a part-time Deputy Marshal in 1997, and full time in May 2010.  He was appointed as the Town Marshal in 2020.  Paul retired from the Indiana Army National Guard with 20 years of service in 2014.  He was deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2008.

  • Chief Deputy Dustin Fike attended East Noble High School and finished his schooling online before applying for the Reserve Program through the Waterloo Marshals Department in 2007.  In 2010, Dustin applied for the reserve officer position in Rome City and after 10 years he was hired as our Deputy Marshal. He then graduated from the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy Tier ll program in Plainfield in December 2020.

Services

The Marshals Office will take appointments on Fridays from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM for VIN / HIN Checks and Golf Cart Registrations.  Please contact the Town Hall at 260-854-2412 to schedule your appointment or complete the online application and you will be contacted to schedule your appointment.  Fees must be paid prior to the inspection.  VIN / HIN Checks are $5 per inspection.  Golf Cart registrations are $40 annually.  Online payments can be made using the General Online Payments for PayGov.us
