Whether you’re out for a Sunday ride with friends or raising money for your favorite charity, group rides are always fun when done in a safe manner. Follow these tips when participating in a group ride:

Arrival

  • Be on time with a full tank of gas.
  • Meet your group leader and sweep rider.
  • Know your route and designated stops.

Riding Formation

  • Maintain a staggered formation.
  • Staggered formation may change due traffic or road conditions.
  • Allow for proper spacing.

If Trouble Occurs

  • Proper spacing allows for riders to adjust their lane position in case you encounter debris in the roadway.
  • Riders should form a single file line in the event of a hazardous condition.
  • In the event a rider must stop, all trailing riders including the sweep rider should also stop.

Ride Safe Indiana (RSI) encourages riders to always practice safe riding habits and to share the road with motorists - especially during group rides. To learn more about safety during group rides, visit the Motorcycle Safety Foundation.
