Vision Statement
The Commission desires to improve the overall watershed of Pigeon Creek. This will include working with the landowners adjacent to Pigeon Creek to improve the drainage and flooding issues that occur. They will also be looking at ways to add to the recreational enjoyment of the Creek and to improve the water quality of the watershed.
The Watershed Development Commission was established in September 2024 under the Indiana Code listed here https://iga.in.gov/laws/2023/ic/titles/14#14-30.5. This Indiana law went into effect on July 1, 2023. The process of forming the commission was started by the passage of a county ordinance by the Vanderburgh County Commissioners to join a newly formed Watershed Development Commission for Pigeon Creek. While Vanderburgh County is the only member county as of today, Warrick, Gibson, and Pike Counties are eligible to join the commission because of Pigeon Creek flowing through each of the four counties. Our current board is listed in the staff section of this website along with the executive director.
