Pool Program

The Pool Program is overseen by the Food Unit and includes, permitting and inspecting public and semi-public swimming pools and spas. Inspections follow the Indiana State Department of Health 2003 Public and Semi-Public Swimming Pools Rule 410 IAC 6-2.1 (August 26, 2010 revision) and St. Joseph County Code Chapter 95: Public/Semi-Public Pools and Spas. St. Joseph County pool inspectors maintain the Certified Pool & Spa Operator® (CPO®) certification through the Pool & Hot Tub Alliance (PHTA).

The Indiana Department of Homeland Security’s Division of Fire and Building Safety reviews and approves plans for the construction of swimming pools and spas. St. Joseph County Department of Health permits are processed after the completion of pool construction, satisfactory water sampling report submission, and inspection. Annual and seasonal pool and spa permits are renewed in April of each year.
