Well Permits

A Huntington County ordinance requires a Well Location Permit to be issued by the Health Department before constructing any new well in our County. The Ordinance requires all new wells to be located 50 feet within the property lines for a lot in or adjacent to an agricultural district or 50 feet from a property line elsewhere.

To obtain the permit, an application from our office must be submitted along with a site plan showing the well's location on the property and indicating the distance from the lot lines. The site plan must also show any existing wells on the lot. Additionally, this Ordinance requires any well taken out of service to be properly abandoned by a licensed well driller to help prevent groundwater contamination. The permit fee is $15.

Once the well has been constructed, the well driller must submit a copy of the well log to our office for our records.
