Newspaper Reading Services

  • NFB-Newsline -This service, available to Talking Book patrons free of charge, offers touch tone telephone access to both local and national newspapers. Newspapers available include the Indianapolis Star, Evansville Courier Press, Muncie Star Press, Northwest Indiana Hammond Times, New York Times, Wall Street Journal, USA Today, and more. Newsline is also available online and through your smart phone.  
  • IRIS - Indiana Reading and Information Services (IRIS), available from WFYI, is an around-the-clock, free communications link for the print-impaired. They offer service through both a radio broadcast (within 42 miles of Indianapolis) and an on-demand, online streaming service. 

  • Audio Reading Service  
    At no cost, The Audio Reading Service, a department of the Allen County Public Library, broadcasts (via radio, podcast, mobile apps, streaming and other avenues) 24/7, the live daily reading of the Journal Gazette newspaper, and recorded readings of over 85 other publications (The New Yorker, Entertainment Weekly, Time, AARP, Sports Illustrated, etc.)  for individuals, of all ages, who live anywhere, and are unable to read normal printed material because of blindness, low-vision, a literacy issue, language barrier or a physical condition, such as stroke, MS, Parkinson’s or arthritis which makes it difficult to hold a book or turn pages. No library card or medical certification is required.
