What is a Data Center Affiliate?
Data Center Affiliates make up a network that provides more localized access to Census data. Affiliates are the link between the federal (U.S. Census Bureau) and state umbrella organizations (Indiana State Library and Indiana Business Research Center) and most individual data users. Some affiliates serve relatively specialized audiences such as residents of a specific geographic area or persons employed in a specific industry or profession. Other serve a broad based clientele.
State Data Center (SDC) networks include organizations such as regional and local planning agencies and public and university libraries. Business & Industry Data Center (BIDC) networks include chambers of commerce, statewide associations of counties and cities and small business development centers.
The affiliate mission is to provide localized assistance and services to data users. Affiliates maintain a collection of major Census Bureau products and access data for their local service area. They provide assistance in locating and using data, or make referrals to other organizations in the network.
