Biographical Note:

Albert Henry Vestal was born on January 18, 1875, near Frankton, Madison County, Indiana. His parents were William and Mary (Jackson) Vestal. He taught for over six years in Nebraska and Indiana. On September 15, 1895, he married Madge Horn with whom he had two children, Vivian and Ralph. In 1896, he graduated from Valparaiso University, was admitted to the bar, and began practicing in Frankton, Indiana. After a short time in the office of Wood & Ellis, he formed his own partnership with James M. Farlow. His wife died on August 5, 1899. Vestal was remarried to Hulda Maude Malone on January 8, 1903.

From 1900 to 1906, Vestal was prosecuting attorney of the 50th judicial circuit. After leaving this office, he practiced in Anderson, Indiana, at the firm Vestal & Van Nuys. He ran for U.S. Congress in 1908 and 1914 and was defeated in both races. He was finally elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1916 and served in the next eight Congresses (1917-1932). Vestal served as the majority whip from 1923 to 1932. He died on April 1, 1932, in Washington, D.C.
