Potential Retirements Reclaimed

Find your forgotten retirement account in one minute or less.

Each day, thousands of Hoosiers go without their retirement benefits earned through public service.

The Indiana Public Retirement System (INPRS) wants to connect with members who may have forgotten their benefits and get them paid as soon as possible.

The cost of a forgotten retirement can be steep, quickly escalating to tens, if not hundreds of thousands of dollars in lost retirement income for a former public employee, teacher, or first responder.

As of October 2025, 3,704 INPRS members are eligible to request their earned retirement benefits, representing a median monthly benefit payment ranging from $545.50 to $783.50. These individuals may also have a defined contribution account waiting for them, with balances averaging $14,451 to $33,342.00.

In addition to these members, 2,379 retirees, their survivors, and their beneficiaries have money waiting for them – money that was initially paid out to them but later returned due to a bad address or banking change that impacted their ACH. In some situations, benefit checks were delivered as intended, but never deposited.

If you ever worked in a public service role in the state of Indiana, like in a government office, school, or as a first responder, you may have a retirement account and benefits waiting for you.

A forgotten address change, an outdated email address, and a locked-out login later, and suddenly life gets so busy that you forget to remember your retirement benefits. And if enough years go by, you could become eligible to retire and not even know it.

Each month that goes by without collecting one’s retirement benefits can be devastating, but Reclaiming Your Retirement is easy. Search our secure database to identify your potentially forgotten retirement benefits. You could be due a benefit today.

Who Should Search the Database?

Search our secure database by entering your first and last name and date of birth. If there’s a match, we’ll let you know that you need to contact us. If there’s not a match, you may still have a retirement benefit with us but you’re just not on our list for this initiative. If you’re not sure, please call us (call 844-464-6777 any time from 8:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m.). Our team is ready to help you Reclaim Your Retirement so you can realize your retirement dreams.

There’s no reason to wait to see if you’re due a retirement benefit.

Waiting to retire doesn’t increase your retirement benefit and you don’t need to be retired from all work to qualify for retirement from your INPRS plan. Search for your loved ones, spouse, former spouses, former employees, clients, too, even if they’re deceased. Money may be due to their estate, survivor, or beneficiary.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why are the names on this list?

Members, beneficiaries, and survivors’ names are on this list because they may need to contact INPRS to begin the retirement application process or to claim a forgotten check payment.

If I'm on this list, does that mean I have money waiting for me?

Maybe! There’s no restriction on what plan or status a member must be in to appear on this list. If a person’s name is on this list, we need them to call us. Once we verify the call, we will discuss the specific reason with the member directly.

I’m not old enough to retire. Why would I be on this list?

There are several reasons why a non-retirement eligible person might be on this list. A person listed may not be retirement age, but they may be listed as a survivor or beneficiary for another member. An individual might be due money from a stale-dated check from an account distribution or rollover. The best way to find out more is to call INPRS right away at 844-GO-INPRS or 844-464-6777.

I found my friend/family members’ name on this list. What do I do?

Wonderful news! Share this website with them and encourage them to call us at 844-GO-INPRS or 844-464-6777.

Where do the names in this database come from?

INPRS generates this list based on our project criteria and compiles it in this standalone database. The list operates outside of INPRS’s systems and is used only to promote this initiative.

Can I get an extract of this entire list?

No. In accordance with Indiana Law, we are unable to provide an extract of this database.

I am on this database and I called to sort this out. When will my name be removed?

INPRS will refresh the list regularly and the most recent date of the list will be shown on the website for reference. If you’ve already reclaimed your retirement, you can expect your name to be removed from the database with the next refresh.

Can someone call INPRS on my behalf to reclaim my retirement?

Generally, no. If you have a Power of Attorney on file with us, we may be able to discuss your retirement account with that individual. Otherwise, we are only able to speak directly to our members, survivors, and beneficiaries about their retirement accounts.

Can’t you just send forgotten retirement funds to Indiana Unclaimed?

INPRS is a fiduciary, which requires us to maintain our members’ accounts and funds until they request a distribution or begin retirement. We cannot transfer this responsibility to any other entity by law.
