Regional Offices

  • OPS
  • Current: Regional Offices

IDEM has four regional offices located strategically throughout the state to provide customers access to environmental services and staff. The four offices—Northern, Northwest, Southeast, and Southwest—house approximately 95 staff who work for IDEM’s Offices of Air, Land, and Water Quality.

The offices also house non-regulatory programs such as the Clean Community Program, Indiana Clean Marinas, Clean Boating, Indiana Beach Alert, Lake Michigan Lakewide Areas Management Plan (LAMP), Grand Calumet River Remedial Action Plan (RAP), and Partners for Clean Air. Each regional office also includes Compliance and Technical Assistance Program staff who provide free, confidential compliance assistance to Indiana businesses and industries.

IDEM encourages Hoosiers to visit the regional offices for access to permits, inspection reports, and general information on environmental activities involving state, municipal, and industrial facilities. Staff can also assist with questions on a wide range of environmental subjects.

Northern Regional Office

The Northern Regional Office brings many services of the Indiana Department of Environmental Management to the citizens and communities of Northern Indiana. Serving the counties of DeKalb, Elkhart, Fulton, Kosciusko, LaGrange, Marshall, Noble, St. Joseph, Starke, and Steuben, the Northern Office helps to bring state environmental assistance from the state capital in Indianapolis to Northern Indiana residents, municipalities, counties, and planning districts.

Northwest Regional Office

Some of the state's most serious environmental challenges lie in Lake, LaPorte and Porter counties in Northwest Indiana. A century of spills, emissions and discharges to the environment required the government to respond with comprehensive, regionally coordinated programs. In 1991, IDEM opened a regional office in Gary to act as a liaison with local officials, concerned citizens, and industry, including the involvement of concerned citizens through the Citizen's Advisory for the Remediation of the Environment (CARE) Committee.

The office serves Hoosiers in counties across southeast and south-central Indiana that include rural towns with local smaller manufacturers and industry to metropolitan areas with ports and large-scale industrial sites. IDEM’s Southeast Regional Office is strategically located in the middle of the service area in Brownstown with easy access from state highways and interstates. The Southeast Regional office staff serves the counties of Bartholomew, Brown, Clark, Crawford, Dearborn, Decatur, Fayette, Floyd, Franklin, Harrison, Jackson, Jefferson, Jennings, Lawrence, Monroe, Ohio, Orange, Perry, Ripley, Scott, Switzerland, Union, and Washington.
