About Environmental Education

Environmental Education

The Environmental Education section of IDEM leads the agency’s organized efforts in sharing how natural systems work and how humans interact with those systems. IDEM’s education staff create and manage environmental education related resources for schools, educators, organizations, and communities around the state of Indiana. Some of these resources include classroom lesson plans, activities for kids, classroom posters and prints, and the biennial Environmental Educator’s Bulletin.

IDEM offers free, hands-on presentations to Indiana elementary school classrooms each April, in observance of Earth Day. The Environmental Education Coordinator organizes the presentation exercises, training, and scheduling for IDEM staff that volunteer to visit the Indiana schools that request Earth Day event activities.

Schools and other organizations can request education presentations year-round on the following topics: Air Quality; Land Quality; Water Quality; Composting and Recycling. Presentation examples, descriptions, and objectives are provided on the classroom presentation topics page. If you would like to schedule a guest speaker for your school or organization, contact the Environmental Education and Outreach Coordinator.
