General Information

Elizabethkingia is a genus of bacteria commonly found in the environment, specifically in soil and water. This bacteria rarely causes disease in healthy individuals, but the risk of infection is slightly higher for people with underlying medical conditions.

Indiana State Department of Health is monitoring for potential cases and communicating with healthcare partners about this outbreak.

As of June 29, 2016 no confirmed cases have been reported in Indiana.
