8th Annual Ride with the Governor

2012 ABATE Ride with the Gov Photos

On August 10th Governor Mitch Daniels led approximately 1,000 motorcyclists on a 197-mile ride through some of Indiana's most beautiful countryside. After lunch at Shakamak State Park, participants rode through Goose Pond Fish and Wildlife Area offering some spectacular views of water fowl. The group also visited the Gasthof Amish Village in Montgomery ultimately arriving at The French Lick Resort.

Dubbed the Last Roundup, this eighth ride of the Daniels administration was created to promote motorcycle safety and awareness. The cumulative mileage of this event equates to nearly a million miles of exposure and the most significant injury has been a deep bruise.

Over the last five years, this ride has served as a fundraiser for the Indiana National Guard Relief Fund, providing financial grants to Indiana Soldiers and their families that have encountered difficult situations due to Soldiers being mobilized or in times of financial hardship. This year's event generated $12,088.51, bringing the five year total to more than $55,000.00. ABATE of Indiana and Governor Daniels are grateful for the sacrifices made by the Indiana National Guard soldiers and their families and are honored to recognize them with this event.
