New absence requests workflow will require manager approval

Absence requests will be emailed to managers and will appear in their PeopleSoft Manager Self Service (MSS) Approvals Tile

Beginning Monday, March 25, your agency will be requiring managers to approve absence requests before those absences are processed by payroll. Managers will receive notices in their email in-box and Manager Self Service (MSS) Approvals Tile. The Team Calendar view now presents a weekly or biweekly overview of your employees’ assigned work schedule with requested and approved absences.

Workflow provides notice of employees’ requests to use earned comp time or take leaves such as vacation, sick, personal, funeral, and military before the absence is sent to payable time for payroll processing.

Absences not in approved status when payroll is processed will not be paid.

NOTE: Approval workflow should not be used as the exclusive communication for an employee to take time off from the assigned schedule. Employees and managers should continue to share and discuss anticipated absences and operational impacts. Manager and employee responsibilities are as follows:

  • Managers are responsible for promptly reviewing the absence request, applying policies, operational or staffing requirements, and acting to approve, pushback, or deny each request.
  • Employees are responsible for knowing their leave balances, the rules or policies for each type of leave, submitting appropriate requests in a timely manner, and tracking the status of their absence requests.

Absences for FML and NPL will continue to be auto approved in the system, and existing communication methods between employees and managers must be followed.
