For Pregnant Women
Questions and Answers
The goal of the Pregnancy Promise Program is for parents and babies to be healthy and together. There are several benefits to participating in the Pregnancy Promise Program.
Connection: Participants in the Pregnancy Promise Program will be matched with a Pregnancy Promise Program case manager. Case managers will offer confidential support during enrollment to be sure mothers and infants receive the care and resources they need to be healthy and well.
Coordination: Pregnancy Promise Program case managers will work with participants and their team of doctors and providers to coordinate care and identify community resources for families.
Prevention: By connecting pregnant women with health care and substance use treatment as early as possible, the Pregnancy Promise Program aims to reduce and prevent the negative impacts of substance use to the parent and child.
The Indiana Pregnancy Promise Program is a free, voluntary program for women who meet the following criteria:
- Pregnant or within 90 days of the end of pregnancy
- Identify as having current or previous substance use
- Eligible for or receive Medicaid health coverage

The Indiana Pregnancy Program provides each participant with a specially trained Pregnancy Program case manager from one of the state’s Medicaid managed care health plans. The Pregnancy Promise Program case manager coordinates care and builds teamwork across all the professionals who care for a pregnant woman with substance use disorder.
The Pregnancy Promise Program case manager will meet regularly with the pregnant woman by phone or in person to provide resources and supports beginning in pregnancy through 12 months postpartum. Participants work with the same Pregnancy Promise Program case manager throughout their time in the program. The Pregnancy Promise Program aims to help parents meet their needs for things like food, housing, clothing, medical care, including physical and mental health care, and SUD treatment and recovery services so that families can thrive together at home and in the community.
